Bayern Munich otherwise known as FC Bayern München on
Saturday beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 away to win their 23rd title in their
Bundesliga history. The only goal of the game which saw four penalty appeals
and a penalty miss by David Alaba was scored in the fifty second minute by home
grown talent Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The Jupp Heynckes tutored side becomes the first German club
side to achieve this feat in the history of the league with six matches to play
in the campaign.
The last time Bayern won the league shield was in the 2009-10
season and their fans will be relieved to finally win some silverware after coming
3rd and 2nd consecutively in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 editions which Borussia
Dortmund won.
The win will act as the right tonic for Bayern as they
travel to Turin on Wednesday to defend a 1st leg 2-0 lead over Juventus in the
Champions League quarterfinal 2nd leg; a competition which they lost narrowly
to Chelsea FC by penalties in last year’s finals.
